While in Encinitas, don’t miss the Quail Botanical Gardens. An oasis of shrubs, trees, and native plants can be found in this secluded, cool forest of green. Admission fee to the garden is affordable and worth the price.
Beaches, flowers, peace and love welcome you to Encinitas. When the various communities that make-up Encinitas, (Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Olivenhain and old and new Encinitas) incorporated together as the City of Encinitas in 1986, each did not give up its individuality and character.
Apart from the communities mentioned, there’s an established district with beaches and shady, tree-lined streets located on Historic 101. With an average annual temperature of 72 degrees and sunshine nearly every day, you will enjoy your stay here no matter what you do.
For the hottest surf spot, Swami’s the place. Located at the southern end of Encinitas Swami’s offers world-class surfing. If you want to just soak up rays, The Boneyard at 4th and D Streets is the place for that. There’s lots of shopping, eating, sunbathing, swimming, surfing, museums and galleries, meditation and enlightenment all available within a short walk from Swami’s.
Encinitas was once recognized as "the flower capital of the world" where the Ecke poinsettia was introduced in 1923. There are still numerous commercial nurseries open to the public. Poinsettias grow rapidly in southern California and the well known holiday plant can take off and quickly grow into a tree. And if its trees you want, Quail Botanical is considered one of the best gardens in Southern California and well worth the price of admission.
