We have taken great measures to take care of the health of our clients, in addition to caring for the health of our environment. Many yoga studios overlook the importance of using VOC-free materials in the construction of their space. Exposure to VOC’s can have an extremely negative effect on your health over time. All materials used in the construction of Haute Yoga are VOC-free, keeping our air as healthy as the ocean breeze from which it comes.
Organic Gases (Volatile Organic Compounds – VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids and that volatility often increases when heated. These gases can come from a wide array of products such as paints and lacquers, glues and adhesives, cleaning supplies, building materials and furnishings. Tatami style mat flooring is used in both practice studios — made entirely from recycled VOC-free materials. This flooring inhibits the growth of mold and mildew. Carpet and even some wood flooring can promote bacterial growth. Our tatami floors have a slight give to them, which adds comfort to all floor postures, yet they remain firm and provide a secure grip which aids with standing poses as well.
Bamboo flooring was our choice in the community area because bamboo is one of the most renewable resources on the planet and is esthetically beautiful as well. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth; some species have been measured to grow four feet in 24 hours. A pole of bamboo can regenerate to its full mass in just six months and can be continuously re-harvested every three years without causing damage to the plant system and surrounding environment.
Renew-air heat reclamation systems are used in each practice room. These energy recovery ventilators can remove 283 liters/second of humid inside air and replace it with fresh outside air. They then transfer heat from the exhaust stream to the supply air stream, reducing heating loads. This makes these units extremely energy efficient while providing the freshest air possible.
Natural cleaning products are used throughout the studio. These products used are all hypo-allergenic, plant based and can bio-degrade easily. They are also non “off-gas” products which means they are safer than most household and commercial cleaning products.
Tankless water heaters provide instant, energy efficient hot water to our showers and sinks. We have installed dual flush toilets in our restrooms which give the option for low volume flushes saving thousands of gallons of water per year.
